a HUGE success
Junior Troop 60230 Operation Safety Swim on March 17, 2013 was a huge success!! We filled our free clinic to capacity with 20 participants between the ages of 6-9 with 15 girls and 5 boys. In addition to our troop-Meg Cappabianca, Emily Caridi, Zoe Hack, Katie Heck, Julia Spano and Kate Van Pelt we had 5 SVYMCA Swim Team Youth volunteers-Glin Bower, Luca & Gianna Moscetti, Samantha Stubbe and Brittany De Rogatis. Our certified Swim Instructors/Coaches included Adele Morgan, Alyssa Barberio and Michele Capano-Morley.
The 14 Hillsborough and 6 Somerset youth residents participated in Team Building games to break the ice and allay any potential fears about swimming. A round or two of "Inspirational Swim Message Telephone" then followed. Junior Troop members then presented a safety skit which included: Throw Don't Go, Swim With A Buddy in a Supervised Area & Be Cool Follow the Rule. We then headed to the pool where Junior troop 60230 Scouts and their SVY team volunteers buddy with 2 clinic participants were instructed on swimming fundamentals under the direction of the Swim Instructor Staff.
We concluded our clinic with a healthy snack and a goodie bag complete with a Swim Cap compliments of Metro Swim Shop of Stirling. Clinic participants graciously donated non perishable food items to benefit the Hillsborough Food Bank.
Getting the word via flyers & brochures could not have been possible without printing services of Staples-both Hillsborough & Raritan locations.
In conclusion, the scouts were thrilled to provide this free offering to their community and are appreciative for the gracious donation of the Hillsborough Family YMCA Facility under the direction of Arthur Soybel Aquatic Director and Y Staff. Just in time to kick off the Y Spring Break Splash Program and 2013 summer swim session.
