Girl Scout Hillsborough Service Unit 72 Receive Mayor's Proclamation in honor of Girl Scout week

Posted by: Mindy on Wed, Mar 6, 2019

Below is our Service Unit Manager (Tara O'Brien) acceptance of the Proclamation honoring Hillsborough Service Unit 72

It is with great honor and respect that Karen Briegs and I accept this proclamation on behalf of our hard-working planning team, leaders and volunteers of Hillsborough Girl Scouts.  It is an even greater honor to accept this on behalf of the nearly 600 young women in Hillsborough Girl Scouts. Thank you to the Township for continuing to allow Girl Scouts to be a huge part of our community.  We are proud to be part of the 107-year-old organization which remains the only girl researched, girl led program for girls. As part of this organization, girls have the opportunity and are given the tools to lead, break barriers, and create positive change.

With 50 troops and over 130 Troop Leaders, the Girl Scouts of Hillsborough can be seen all over our Township.  If you look hard enough, you can find us at schools, churches and right here at the municipal building at Troop meetings working on a journey or at events like this past Saturday as Girl Scouts traveled around the world at our Annual World Thinking Day.  Or maybe you’ve caught us in a more challenging situation like hiking the Sourlands, jumping on the bus to go snow tubing, or pulling into Camp DeWitt for a weekend of camping.  And lastly, we hope you have seen us doing hundreds of hours of service in places like the Community Action Network, the annual Halloween and Holiday parties, or Memorial Day.  (Oh, yes, how could I forget, in a few short weeks, you will see us honing our entrepreneurial skill selling our famous Girl Scout cookies at many locations around town.)

Now, watch us.  Watch us develop girls with a strong sense of self. Watch us display positive values. Watch us seek challenges and learn from setbacks. Watch us form and maintain healthy relationships. And watch us identify and solve problems in the community.  Watch us as we continue our 107-year journey preparing girls for success, adventure, and to be female change-makers.  Watch US as we prepare young Girl Scouts to be women with a lifetime of leadership.
